The Posavje Museum Brežice in Brežice Castle is one of the biggest cultural landmarks in the Posavje region of Slovenia. It is located at Cesta prvih borcev 1 in Brežice, Slovenia.
The museum offers a rich collection of the region’s cultural and historical heritage, represented through exhibitions, archaeological excavations, art collections, and other museum collections. The Posavje Museum Brežice was founded in 1950 and has since been an important center for the preservation, research, and promotion of the region’s cultural heritage.
Visitors can enjoy the tour of the castle and its famous collections, such as the archaeological collection, ethnological collection, art collection, and collection of cultural history. Admission is free for preschool children, as well as for the disabled, unemployed, members of the Slovenian Museum Society and ICOM, and other professional associations related to museum activities, tourist guides and escorts for groups and the disabled, and journalists with appropriate credentials.

If you decide to visit the museum, note that the museum has different opening hours depending on the season. In winter (November-February), it is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm, on Sundays and holidays from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm. In spring and autumn (March-May and September-October), it is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm, on Sundays and holidays from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm. In summer (June-August), it is open from Monday to Saturday from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm, on Sundays and holidays from 2.00 pm to 8.00 pm. The museum is closed on January 1, November 1, 24, 25, and 31, and on Mondays, except from June to August. The last entry to the museum is possible half an hour before the closing time. For announced groups (at least 48 hours before arrival), the museum is also open on other days and hours.
The regular ticket price for adults is €5.00, for retirees, students (with proof), high school and elementary school students €3.00, for families €10.00, and for groups of over 10 people: adults €4.00 and retirees, students (with proof), high school and elementary school students €2.50.
The Brežice Water Tower is the most recognizable landmark of the town of Brežice and attracts visitors from afar. It was built in 1914 for the needs of the town’s water supply and is 46 meters high. The tower is mostly circular, with an octagonal reservoir at the top, supported by sixteen consoles. The Brežice water tower is a unique example of a water tower from that period in Slovenia.
After a thorough renovation that took place between 2021 and 2022, the water tower has been open to all visitors since November 2022.
